Handy Up North

I came for the trout —
and couldn’t find a plumber.

That’s the whole story, really. I spend a lot of time on the Big South Branch of the Pere Marquette, halfway between Ludington and Baldwin, deep in the Huron-Manistee. World-class water, good neighbors — and when something breaks, no easy way to find the person who can fix it.

If you live out here, you know the problem. The big websites don’t cover us well. The good local pros are booked through word of mouth before you ever hear their names.

And here’s the thing — the help exists. Some of the most skilled plumbers, electricians, carpenters, and fix-anything folks in west Michigan live right here — from Manistee to Pentwater and all through Mason and Lake County. They’re just invisible unless you happen to know somebody who knows somebody.

Handy Up North is a simple idea: one trustworthy list. Local tradespeople get found by the customers who need them — at no cost to the service provider. Customers get real names, real skills, and a direct line. Nobody in the middle taking a cut of anybody’s work.

It’s run by a neighbor, not a corporation — from a place on the river, by someone who wants to close the gap and build something genuinely useful for the people of this region. The Green Pages of the Northwoods, if you like.
